Value-based financial management. Towards a systematic process for financial decision making

The question posed in this book is: can a private company be managed with the same criteria as if it were listed on the stock market, basing its decisions on the same financial tools? The answer is yes, and the main objective is to describe a basic dynamic valuation model where, at all times, the top management of a company can know the “market” value of the latter. In other words, although they are still private, the management model proposed in the book makes the decision-making process rigorous and professional using appropriate financial tools that serve as the main supports in the decision process. Furthermore, as some of the variables affect the value, the model invites the use of different risk management tools so that, after establishing the ranges of allowed movements (risk map), coverage or mitigation mechanisms are implemented. This publication is relevant for management practice because it seeks that decisions start from a systematic, orderly, and documented process, aimed at creating value.
