Wheat in the dry sub-humid pampas region is intended to provide Agricultural Sciences students, technical advisors and producers with an approach to build up knowledge about wheat crops. This dynamic construction is a result of the constant changes operating in agricultural systems. The College of Agronomy of the National University of La Pampa, proposes in its statute, the education of professionals, the development of research activities and the dissemination of advances. Such advances are achieved thanks to the use of adequate technologies which produce an impact on agricultural production, having as its final aim the improvement of the population’s welfare. This work has been carried out on the basis of materials used in the course Cereals and Oil Crops. Its contents have a general approach to wheat production, even though in the chapters devoted to management, the focus is placed on the dry sub-humid pampas region. For those readers with previous knowledge of crops physiology, use of machinery, the basics of climate and soils, diseases, pests and weeds, plant genetics and therapeutics, reading will be more fluent. However, this will not pose a problem for other readers, since the building up of knowledge can be achieved from multiple perspectives. This book is composed of eight chapters dealing with growth and development of wheat plants and crop management, plus additional in-depth information about the process of analysis and synthesis of all topics. For each growth phase the main determining factors are described together with production limitations and reductions, and a discussion about possible solutions or palliative measures is provided, relating them to the application of new technologies available for the crop. On the basis of the information collected in the region and complemented by the available literature, the purpose of this work is to generate a dialogue among all those who take part of the process.
