Every period in history brought exile and emigration, but in the 20th century, “emigration” became a worldwide phenomenon, largely due to the persecution, expulsion and flight of people affected above all by the effects of the rise of Nationalism. The present work is a study on the refugees who, between 1938 and the fifties, fled from Germany and the countries called by Nationalism and went to Ecuador. The people whose destinations are presented here belonged to the mass of persecuted refugees and exposed, since before their escape, to multiple discriminations. Most had lost their material goods, many had been arrested or, at least, threatened because of the pogrom of November 1938. They left to save their lives from the “Shoah”, from extermination, without being able to choose the country of their exile, happy, simply, to be received.
