The book contains a critical study of Ecuador’s publishing industry from a dual perspective: the way publicity represents the female body and how women of different social classes accept or reject those images, which induce them to discipline their bodies in the name of an impossible physical perfection.
Through a historical tour of female figures that appear in publicity, she observes how, from the 1970s, the bodies were gradually being revealed until coming to be the artificial images of the new millennium, thanks to the use of Photoshop and other technologies. Thus, those “objects of desire” displayed now in publicity and commercials project a fragmented and artificial representation of feminine identity.
A feminist reading of the link between publicity and subjectivities of women, this is bedtime reading for Ecuadorian women, an essential work for feminists who study new forms for exercising power and promoting sexual rights and transformations in daily life.
